PHOTO ESSAY: TSUNAMI

These photographs were taken during a two-week trip to Banda Aceh, Indonesia in January of 2006. This coastal town was the closest city to the epicenter of the earthquake off the coast of the island of Sumatra.

The resulting tsunami caused deaths as far away as Thailand and Sri Lanka, but Aceh had the greatest amount of damage and suffered about half of the over 200,000 deaths caused by the disaster.
